Last Week Changes in Cyanobacteria Bloom Potential on Lake

Bloom potential increased in northern and eastern parts of the Lake last week. Probable factors contributing to increased bloom potential on the Lake include: calmer winds, less precipitation, increased inflows and consequently increased nutrient loadings, decreased outflow and consequently longer Lake water residency time allowing more time for nutrient uptake by cyanobacteria and algae. Prevailing southerly winds most likely contributed to BGA biomass accumulation in the northern and eastern parts of the Lake.
