{"id":870,"date":"2026-05-19T14:44:15","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T18:44:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/306fee8b4e.nxcli.io\/?post_type=case-studies&#038;p=870"},"modified":"2026-06-24T13:17:13","modified_gmt":"2026-06-24T17:17:13","slug":"emaar-properties-lagoon","status":"publish","type":"case-studies","link":"https:\/\/www.hydro-bioscience.com\/es\/case-studies\/emaar-properties-lagoon\/","title":{"rendered":"Emaar Properties Lagoon"},"content":{"rendered":"<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"481\" height=\"641\" class=\"gb-media-a11827f9\" src=\"https:\/\/306fee8b4e.nxcli.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-7.png\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hydro-bioscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-7.png 481w, https:\/\/www.hydro-bioscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-7-225x300.png 225w, https:\/\/www.hydro-bioscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-7-9x12.png 9w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 481px) 100vw, 481px\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The chosen lagoon is a swimmable lagoon of about 2,142 m2 area with a water volume of 2140 m3, the water depth varying from 0 to 1.4 m, and it utilizes small pump and filter systems around the perimeter of the lagoon. Each system is in vaults behind the lagoon&#8217;s vertical edge. The pump suction is connected directly to a single skimmer with an integrated small cartridge filter. Each system is capable of a flow rate of approximately 30 m3\/hr.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Due to each system&#8217;s minimal size and capacity, the lagoon will require multiple units to achieve the necessary treatment flow rate (existing 23 units). It is presumed that chemicals such as chlorine and acid are added manually as there is no practical way to introduce automatic chemical injection into these small units.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the data of the lagoon operation, all pumps work 4 hours daily, and the rest of the day, they work in turns half the pumps number for one hour and then stop and run the other half and so on, with a recirculation rate about 8970 m3\/day, which means that the turn over time for the system is 5.3 hours. The chlorine rate is 12 kg\/day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Testing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The water inside these vaults will inevitably contaminate because it is not exposed to ultrasonic waves, and no additives will reach it. Due to the lowering of the water level, the water volume of the lagoon will be 1890 m3. The water quality parameters (pH, Chlorine, ORP, Turbidity\u2026. etc.) of the lagoon water should be recorded at the start of the experiment. A lagoon water sample must also be sent to the laboratory for biological analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before starting the experiment, the lagoon will be left untreated, allowing algae to thrive in its water. When algae bloom, and before operating the ultrasonic control system, a water sample is taken and algae count test is performed. After that, the ultrasonic algae control system is operated to deal with what appeared in the lagoon water. The experiment duration is 4 weeks, divided into two phases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first phase is the first two weeks, and the purpose of this phase is to test the effect of the ultrasonic system alone on aquatic organisms, and it includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The lagoon will be left without adding any chemicals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The lagoon will be left without replenishment (water makeup).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The ultrasonic algae control system will be turned on.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No cleaning will be done during these 2 weeks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A water sample is taken every week, and an algae count test is performed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second phase is the other two weeks, in which:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The ultrasonic algae control system will continue to be turned on.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Start the cleaning of the lagoon bed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Start adding the additives through the recirculation system.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>By the end of this phase, a water sample is taken, and an algae count test is performed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Results<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After two weeks of treatment using an ultrasonic control system, bacterial count decreased compared to the control sample (before treatment). control sample bacterial count was 10,000 CFU\/100 ml., after 1st week, the count decreased to 5 CFU\/100 ml, and after 2nd week the count decreased to 4 CFU\/100 ml., after 4th week, the bacteria increased again to 300 CFU\/100 ml, the reduction in the bacterial count is equal to 97%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"536\" height=\"634\" class=\"gb-media-bf0bab0d\" src=\"https:\/\/306fee8b4e.nxcli.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-9.png\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hydro-bioscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-9.png 536w, https:\/\/www.hydro-bioscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-9-254x300.png 254w, https:\/\/www.hydro-bioscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-9-10x12.png 10w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 536px) 100vw, 536px\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After two weeks of treatment, by using an ultrasonic control system, the algae count decreased compared to control sample (before treatment). the control sample&#8217;s algae count was 15 cells\/ml. After 1st week, the algae count decreased to zero, and after 2nd week the algae count continued to zero and continue zero in the fourth sample. After the 4th week, the reduction in algae count is equal to 100%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These results are consistent with the scientific and laboratory results of ultrasound applications, which confirm that ultrasonic eliminates 100% of algae in the water. Still, ultrasound does not affect some types of bacteria, such as Legionella.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The analysis of sample No. (4) shows some counts of bacteria appeared, and in this sample, the residual chlorine was measured; it was very low (0.03 ppm). We recommend increasing the chlorine dose to 2 kg\/day to kill all the remaining bacteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">PH level<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the Egyptian code for swimming pools, the pH must be between 7.2 and 7.8 (Code 301- 1999, page 109) and according to the Ministry of Health regulations for swimming pools that use seawater, the pH is between 6.5 and 8.5 (Ministry of Health and Population Decision No. 28 of 1997). At the beginning of the experiment, the pH was recorded 7.73; by the end of the first phase (after 2 weeks), it raised to 10.12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ultrasound causes blue-green algae with gas vesicles to settle to the bottom of the lake within 3-4 days due to loss of buoyancy. Algae struggle to survive for a certain period before dying due to a lack of light. In their life period before they die, algae consume carbon dioxide from the water, which raises the pH value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe suggest that the cause of an increase in the pH value of water due to the increase of ammonia and organic matter by accumulating dead algae and microorganism cells in the water.\u201d The lab report said. The pH was easily controlled by adding an acid pH controller, so it decreased in 4th sample to 8.33<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chlorophyll (A) | Chlorophyll is a colour pigment found in plants, algae and phytoplankton. This molecule is used in photosynthesis as a photoreceptor. Photoreceptors absorb light energy, and chlorophyll specifically absorbs energy from sunlight.
