“The HBS Quattro-DB was purchased and installed at the Olga Surface Water Treatment Plant in Lee County Florida. The plant treats water from the Caloosahatchee River, which is regularly plagued with algal blooms. The first stage coagulation clarifier at the plant does not have any form of disinfectant, and therefore builds up long stringy green algae very quickly. The clarifier would have to be taken down annually to clean the algae off. Sometimes, depending on the build-up, more often than that. The installation of the control box and “head” were very quick and simple. At the time of the installation, large mats of algae were all over the clarifier surface, and the strings of algae attached to the walls were around three to four feet in length. Within a couple of days of the install, small bubbles were observed all around the mats of algae. After three to four months of the unit running, the algae had subsided dramatically. There were no longer stringy green algae on the walls and the mats of thick surficial algae had diminished to a minimum. Other than the large amount of small surficial bubbles, that I can only assume, are the byproduct of the “destroyed” algae, the water clarity and treatment had improved dramatically. Furthermore, there have been no observable negative impacts whatsoever from the installed unit on the plant treatment or otherwise. In fact, everyone that has witnessed the change in the clarifier has been astonished. The results have been so overwhelmingly positive, that an additional unit will be purchased and installed in the plant intake to combat the Blue-green algae that can appear throughout the year.”
